I don’t know if it is relevant to your work, and your thoughts, but the professional mourners do not mourn for you in a way which actually takes you OUT of the experience but rather in a way which gives it even more form and enters into and articulates within the tradition the grief which the personal mourner is feeling. what’s more the mourner enters the state of mourning while professionally mourning because the nature of the singing/wailing is such that one cannot do it cerebrally, coldly, or detached. so it is a form of ‘beside oneself’ which is also ‘a heightened state of oneself.’
